February 2012:- Mirics, developer of software-modem TV receiver, has also developed the DAB & DAB+ digital audio broadcasting solutions for ARM processor-based mobile TV and radio reception to media rich smartphones and tablets. This expands Mirics’ ARM® Cortex™-A9 processor-based FlexiTV platform that already boasts T-DMB. The latest development for ARM Cortex applications processors also demonstrates Mirics’ on-going commitment to enable platform agnostic broadcast content, while substantially reducing the cost and footprint of adding TV and radio reception to tablet devices.

Software TV Radio Receiver for Smartphones and TabletsFlexiTV software demodulation-based platform delivers the most cost effective global standards broadcast receiver. FlexiTV combines Mirics’ silicon front-end (MSi3101), with Mirics’ processor-efficient demodulator algorithms. FlexiTV’s algorithms replicate the complete functionality of silicon demodulators (such as OFDM demodulation and error correction).

The FlexiTV platform exceeds all relevant broadcast and industry compliance requirements (such as NorDig and USB-IF), delivering a robust solution to meet the strictest of OEM and ODM quality expectations.

Mirics FlexiTV is a multi-standard broadcast TV receiver for personal computer and portable processor-based devices. Using a system’s existing processor for demodulation, any analog or digital TV and radio standard can be received, resulting in a highly optimized multi-standard receiver platform at the lowest possible cost. This allows maximum standards flexibility, and a single hardware design for worldwide terrestrial TV and radio reception. FlexiTV supports both standard- and high-definition TV for ultimate user experience. FlexiTV utilizes Mirics’ RF front-end with digital output interface devices, such as the MSi3101 RF-to-USB solution.

DAB+ is an extension of DAB – it uses the same physical layer but encodes the audio using AAC giving the consumer improved reception. In addition its higher compression ratio can provide broadcasts either more channels at equivalent quality or frees up space for program associated data services.
