Micronor introduced a new Absolute Fiber Optic Position Sensor (FOPS). The Model MR330 series position sensor is an innovative all-optical design immune to any electromagnetic interference such as lightening, radiation, magnetic fields and other harsh environmental conditions. The fiber optic aspect of the sensor also makes it perfectly suited for long distance position sensing over hundreds of meters without being affected by ground loop problems.

Fiber Optic Absolute Position Sensor with EMI ImmunityThis innovative product measures absolute angular position from 0° to 360° with 13-bit (8192 count) resolution at speeds exceeding 2500 rpm and distances exceeding 300 meters. This new fiber optical absolute position sensor system uses a novel optical technique embedded in a passive sensor and active controller connected by a duplex fiber optic link.

A complete Fiber Optic Position Sensor (FOPS) system consists of the MR330-1 SSI Controller and MR332 Passive Sensor. The system consists of an optical sensor (MR332) and a controller (MR330) linked via industry standard Duplex LC optical connectors and 62.5/125 multimode fiber. This novel sensor system outdistances conventional absolute encoders and resolvers –providing interference-free sensing and transmission up to 300m.

The controller transmits a burst of light to the code disk in the sensor which modulates the spectral components of the light based on angular position. The position information is imprinted in the optical spectrum of the light and guided back to the controller for precise position readout.

The MR330’s accuracy and EMI immunity make it ideal for applications that require precise motion control and position measurement in challenging environments: oil rigs, satellite antennas, solar panel arrays, actuator systems, transportation systems, steel mills and medical instrumentation.

The MR330 Controller is the “active” part of the fiber optic sensor system and offers industry-standard interfaces such as SSI, Modbus (RTU), USB and Analog Outputs (±10V and 4-20mA). The MR330 system integrates seamlessly into any control system as any conventional absolute encoder would. MR330 Controller is DIN rail mount able and provides wide array of interfaces; including SSI, RS485, Modbus, USB, two Digital Set Points and Analog Outputs (±10V, 4-20mA).
