Moisture Meters or Moisture Gauges

Moisture meter is an electrical instrument used for measurement of the moisture content of objects, substances, and/or particular environments. Moisture meter is often used to measure the humidity or moisture content of packaging materials, textiles, plants, houses, dry foodstuffs, concrete, electronic appliances, wood, chemicals, and many other materials. Many industries use this device to control humidity and the formation of moisture in their products.

Moisture meters are used to measure the percentage of water in a given substance. Moisture meters are extremely useful in monitoring moisture sensitive materials. Physical properties are strongly affected by moisture content. Dimensioning also changes with moisture content. Moisture Meter Types and Working Principles

  • Pin-type Moisture Meters – Using the principle of electrical resistance, pin-type moisture meters use the board as an element in a circuit by driving two pins or electrodes into it. This method works because moisture conducts electricity well and dry material tested is an effective insulator.
  • Pinless Moisture Meters – Most pinless moisture meters use the capacitance method, which uses the relationship between the moisture content and the dielectric properties of the material tested.

Moisture Analyzers used for Moisture Analysis

Moisture Analyzers are used for moisture content analysis. Moisture analysis covers a variety of methods for measuring moisture content in both high level and trace amounts in solids, liquids, or gases. Moisture in percentage amounts is monitored as a specification in commercial food production. There are many applications where trace moisture measurements are necessary for manufacturing and process quality assurance. Trace moisture in solids must be controlled for plastics, pharmaceuticals and heat treatment processes. Gas or liquid measurement applications include dry air, hydrocarbon processing, pure semiconductor gases, bulk pure gases, dielectric gases such as those in transformers and power plants, and natural gas pipeline transport.

Moisture Analyzer performs the moisture content analysis by heating or cooling the sample materials, and by periodically measuring the weight of the sample, it estimates the moisture content change rate and total moisture content of the tested material.
