QM power supply with low noise and full MoPP isolation

The QM series of AC/DC power supplies from TDK is said to be the first 1200W to 1500W modular series to have full MoPP isolation, with the lowest acoustic noise available on the market at that power level.

“We asked the customers directly what they think could be improved on existing modular power supplies,” said product manager, Paul Goodwin. “Many complained about the noise level of the fan and premature failure because of dust.”

The QM operating efficiency is 91% which reduces internal heat loss and extends components’ life expectancy.

“A typical modular power supply wastes 375W, the QM saves 235W of that wasted energy,” Goodwin added.

QM’s efficiency enables the use of low speed, and therefore longer lasting, cooling fans which reduce audible noise to 44.3dBA at room temperature. As less ingress of dirt and contaminants is drawn into the power supply than those with traditional high-speed fans, there is said to be greater reliability.

The QM can deliver 1200W with a 90 to 264V AC, 47 to 440Hz input. Up to 16 outputs are provided, with voltages ranging from 2.8 to 52.8V.

The units operate in temperatures ranging from -20 to 70°C, derating output power and output current by 2.5% per °C above 50°C.

The QM measures 176 x 63.3 x 270mm, and weighs between 2.6 and 3.1kg, depending on the module configuration. The QM is covered by an industry-leading seven-year warranty.

Having both medical and industrial safety certifications, the QM is suitable for a range of applications, including BF rated medical equipment, test and measurement, broadcast, communications and renewable energy applications.
