Single package device for intelligent motor control

A single package device for intelligent motor control has been launched by STMicroelectronics. Called the STSPIN32F0, the device is said to combine the power and flexibility of a microcontroller based drive with ease of use and space efficiency.

The STSPIN32F0 combines an MCU and an analogue IC in a 7 x 7mm QFN package. According to ST, the solution will be attractive to developers with existing investment in proprietary motor-control IP, as well as to those seeking an off-the-shelf motor-control algorithm.

Target applications include smart-manufacturing equipment, power tools and cooling fans, as well as emerging high-tech product categories such as drones, small robots, and home appliances containing high-efficiency motors, such as high-performance portable vacuum cleaners or air purifiers.

The STSPIN32F0 is said to simplify design through the STM32 development ecosystem, as well as access to motion control algorithms such as field oriented control and six step control.
