RFID Technology for Libraries RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) is the latest technology to be used in library theft detection systems. Unlike EM (Electro-Mechanical) and RF (Radio Frequency) systems, which have been used in libraries for decades, RFID-based systems move beyond security to become tracking systems that combine security with more efficient tracking of materials throughout […]

RFID and barcodes are similar in that they are both data collection technologies, meaning they automate the process of collecting data. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is not necessarily better than bar codes. However, they also differ significantly in many areas. Although this comparison primarily focuses on the advantages of RFID over barcodes, RFID will not completely replace barcode technology. Barcodes offer some advantages over RFID, most notably their low cost.

ISO/IEC 18000-7 defines the air interface protocol for Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) devices operating as an active RF Tag in the 433 MHz band used in item management applications. Its purpose is to provide a common technical specification for RFID devices that may be used for developing RFID applications.

Battery Assisted Passive (BAP) RFID Tags are also called as Semi-Passive RFID Tags or Semi-Active RFID Tags. Semi-Passive RFID Tags operate similarly to passive RFID tags. However, Semi-Passive RFID Tags contain a battery that enables longer reading distance and also enables the tag to operate independently of the reader. One example is a data logger tag, which can take sensor readings automatically and run a real-time clock.
