Designed for oil and gas markets, AVX has increased the temperature range of its HTMC series of tantalum capacitors from 125°C to 175°C

AVX Corp. has
extended the operating temperature range of its TWD High-Temp
Max-Cap (HTMC) Series
of axial-leaded, hermetically sealed
wet tantalum capacitors from 125°C
to 175°C. These capacitors
are designed for use in oil and gas markets that require extreme temperatures,
including use in down-hole drilling equipment. Other applications include DC
hold-up and low-frequency pulse circuitry for avionics, defense, and
specialized industrial thanks to their high capacitance, high operating
temperature, and longer lifetimes than electric double-layer supercapacitors.
 

The improved capacitors offer the highest
DC capacitance and operating temperature for any T4-case capacitor, according
to AVX. The operating temperature range is –55°C to 175°C. The HTMC capacitors
are available in two ratings (50 mF/6.3V and 25 mF/10V with a ±10% and ±20% capacitance tolerance), offering capacitance values that were
previously only available via supercapacitors.

The capacitors also promise exceptional electrical
and mechanical stability for extended lifetimes of up to 10,000 hours at 105°C
and rated voltage. For the 25-mF/10-V parts, they offer stability up to 2,000
hours at 175°C and de-rated voltage.
 

The capacitors are available in DSCC size
T4/AVX size E. Options include with or without an insulating sleeve and either
Sn/Pb (60/40) plated or pure matte tin terminations. The case sizes measure
26.97 mm (+0.79 mm or –0.41 mm) in length, 10.31 mm in diameter with an
insulating sleeve or 9.52 mm (±0.41 mm) without the sleeve. Terminals measure
57.15 mm (±6.35 mm). The capacitors are RoHS-compliant, lead-free-compliant,
and can be used in automatic mounting and soldering.
